Your pet must have health exams just as you do with your doctor. Our staff will thoroughly inspect your pet during these appointments, from head to tail.
Puppy Wellness
Our puppy wellness program helps your new best friend get started on the right paw toward a happy, healthy life. With our assistance, we can help navigate the first few months of your puppy’s development and offer the necessary tools and support to mold them into becoming a healthy, well-mannered dog. We can offer critical advice on:
- Nutrition
- Behavior
- Training
- Socialization
When you first welcome your new pup to your family, it’s very important to schedule their initial exam as soon as possible. During that first visit, we will make sure your puppy is protected against rabies, distemper, and parvovirus, among other diseases. They will also need to be checked and treated for parasites, which are common in young dogs.
It’s also important for puppies to be treated for roundworms, to eliminate the infection but also to keep your family safe from becoming infected—as a zoonotic parasite, they could potentially be transferred from animals to people. These roundworms, which most puppies have, can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal issues.
With a properly treated puppy, you not only keep them safe but also keep your entire household safe. We can’t wait to meet your new best friend, and we look forward to your first visit.
Kitten Wellness
Our kitten wellness program helps your new best friend get started on the right paw toward a happy, healthy life. With our assistance, we can help navigate the first few months of your kitten’s development and offer the necessary tools and support to mold them into becoming a healthy, well-mannered cat. We can offer critical advice on:
- Litterbox training
- Nutrition
- Behavior
When you first welcome your new kitty cat to your family, it’s very important to schedule their initial exam as soon as possible. During that first visit, we will ensure your new kitten is protected against rabies and panleukopenia (distemper). We may also advise vaccinating them against diseases such as feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), depending on their risk factors. They will also need to be checked and treated for parasites, which are common in young cats.
It’s also important for kittens to be treated for roundworms, to eliminate the infection and keep your family safe from becoming infected—as a zoonotic parasite, they could potentially be transferred from animals to people. These roundworms, which most kittens have, can either have no symptoms or they can cause weight loss, coughing, and a potbellied appearance.
With an adequately treated kitten, you not only keep them safe but also keep your entire household safe. We can’t wait to meet your new best friend, and we look forward to your first visit.
Adult Pet Wellness
Bringing your pet in for regular exams helps keep them healthy and helps us with early detection of diseases or conditions. When discovered early, this improves the prognosis, helps keep medical costs down, and helps your cherished pet live a longer life. Some pets don’t show symptoms depending on the disease, and since many dogs and cats are adept at hiding pain, it can be difficult to tell when they are not feeling their best—this is why exams are so important.
As dogs and cats age, so does their risk of:
- Cancer
- Arthritis
- Diabetes
- Hormone disorders
- Heart disease
- Kidney and liver problems
During your pet’s wellness exam, we will perform a physical assessment which includes checking your dog or cat from nose to tail and making sure they receive the correct vaccinations and preventives. We will also perform a diagnostic workup, which potentially includes fecal, urine, and blood tests which detect parasites and other underlying diseases. We may also recommend pet dental care.
As your pet ages and reaches its senior years, we will recommend a baseline exam and diagnostic workup, so we’ll know what is normal for your pet—this enables us to keep track of any changes.
Since you are your pet’s companion and best friend, you know them the best—therefore please contact us if you notice any physical or behavioral changes, as well as any other concerns.
Senior Pet Wellness
As dogs and cats age, they need more specialized care and attention. We can help your pet stay fit and healthy as they get older, and we can also detect potential problems earlier when they are easier to treat.
Regular veterinary exams are always important for pets, but they get more critical as your dog or cat enters its senior years. As pets age, so does their risk of:
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Arthritis
- Heart disease
- Hormone disorders
- Kidney and liver problems
Little dogs tend to have longer lives than larger dogs, and cats usually live longer than dogs. With our help, we can determine what stage of life your pet is in. We suggest senior checkups when your dog turns seven or your cat turns eight—from there, your senior pet will benefit from more frequent veterinary exams and diagnostic testing.
At PAVG, we can treat symptoms that are usually associated with age, such as cognitive dysfunction syndrome which is similar to Alzheimer’s. We can also improve your pet’s quality of life by identifying, preventing, and reducing pain and recommending an appropriate nutrition and exercise plan.
Once we meet with your animal, we will develop a custom senior wellness plan that fits your pet’s needs.
