Flea Prevention and Control

Fleas and parasites can cause minor or even life-threatening problems for pets and can make them suffer from severe itching, allergies and irritation—they can also transmit tapeworms and diseases. Fleas can bite people, too, so it’s important to keep your pets updated on preventive.

At PAVG, we can help keep these pests away or help you get rid of them if they have already ventured inside your home. contact us today to find out how we can help you prevent and eliminate fleas.

Heartworm Prevention

A mosquito’s bite can transmit heartworm infection, which can severely and sometimes fatally damage your dog’s or cat’s lungs, heart and blood vessels. Signs of heartworm in dogs include:

  • Weight loss
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Difficulty breathing

Heartworm in dogs can also lead to a life-threatening condition called caval syndrome, which is a form of liver failure. Without proper surgery, this condition can be fatal.

Cats can also be susceptible to heartworms and this is more difficult to diagnose in cats than dogs. Felines can suffer from a syndrome called heartworm-associated respiratory disease, which has subtle symptoms that resemble asthma or allergic bronchitis. Other symptoms can include:

  • Coughing
  • Vomiting
  • Low appetite
  • Weight loss

For cats, there is no approved treatment for heartworm. Some can spontaneously rid themselves of it, while others may not survive it. For dogs, treatment is much more expensive than prevention—however, there’s an easy way to keep your pet safe—monthly heartworm preventives. These keep your pet safe from roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, ear mites, fleas and ticks.

PAVG can recommend the best course of prevention for your pet—contact us today to discuss this in more detail!
